Welcome to my Yowza Captiva Elliptical Review.
Overview of the Captiva Elliptical.
The Captiva Elliptical Trainer is Yowza Fitness’ premium elliptical trainer. The Variable Motion Elliptical Technology lengthens your stride from 18″ to 32″, also deepening height and intensity of your workout. Moreover, this elliptical uses Yowza’s cardio core technology which is a different type of elliptical altogether.
Instead of moving your arms forward and backward, you rotate much like you would using a large steering wheel. This type of motion works out your abdominals (in addition to pectorals, arms, shoulders, and back muscles). Watch the video below to see the Captiva in action and to get a full understanding what cardio core is.
Features |
|
| Stride | Variable 18″ to 32″ roller-less motion that goes both forwards and backwards. The Captiva Elliptical is my favorite Yowza elliptical because of the large variable stride options. This range is rare on ellipticals – and having this range gives you and other users many options for the right type of workout. |
| UNIQUE UPPER BODY WORKOUT – CARDIO CORE TECHNOLOGY | I put the feature item in all capitals to GRAB YOUR ATTENTION. This elliptical is not like other ellipticals (except for other Cardio Core Yowza Ellipticals). The upper body workout is like using a large steering wheel. It is NOT the traditional forward and backward movement. Please watch the Captiva video below to see what I’m talking about. The rotational upper body movement is like doing side-to-side crunches while getting a full body cardio workout. |
| Drive-Type | Rear-drive. Moreover, it’s a fluid and smooth stride because it doesn’t use rollers. |
| Pedals | Sure-FitTM self-pivoting pedals for optimal alignment. The pedals pivot forward and backward to accommodate your foot as your foot’s angle changes throughout the stride. |
| Handle Bars | Full motion handle bars providing a full body workout. The Captiva Elliptical comes with Yowza’s counter-rotational core motion which targets and works out your abdominal muscles. |
| Intensity Levels | 8 |
| Audio | Built-in iPod docking station and hi-fidelity speakers. |
| Braking | Electromagnetic braking system. |
| Fan system | Built-in with 3 speeds. |
| Maximum User Weight | 400 pounds. This is a very good weight capacity specification. Few ellipticals have a 400 pound maximum user weight capacity. |
| Water Bottle | Optional. |
| Heart Rate Measuring System | PolarTM heart rate receiver & grip pulse handle bars and wireless transmitter/chest belt and handle grip pulse sensors. |
| Screen | Multi-color LCD screen. |
| Preset Exercise Programs | 9: manual, target time, target distance, target calories, Core Interval program (with 8 unique intensity levels), endurance program (8 intensity levels), watts control, Core fat burning, and heart rate control. |

I like the Captiva Elliptical Machine & Trainer primarily because of the variable stride option and coutner rotational motion.
This way the treadmill can be optimally used and configured by a wide variety of people. This is after all, a great reason to get a treadmill – and that is so more than one person can stay in shape in a household or office.
Longer strides offer better workouts as far as I’m concnerned. I like long stride – both for legs and arms.
If you’re trying to lose weight, the Captiva Elliptical by Yowza is a good buy because of the wireless heart rate sensor. A good workout for losing weight is maintaining a low intensity level (65% of maximum heart rate) for a long time (30 minutes plus if possible). This means monitoring your heart rate is important. Many elliptical trainers require you to keep your hands on the handle bars your entire workout to maintain monitoring your heart rate. If you’re like me, you like to read a magazine and so you need to take your hands off the handle bars sometimes. This is where Captiva’s wireless heart rate chest strap comes in handy.
