OVERVIEW:

The Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer is a sturdy, quiet, and smooth front-drive elliptical trainer that when in your home gives you a quality full body workout without the hassles of going to a commercial gym.  The E95′s 20 inch stride, incline option, and an elliptical stride that goes both forward and backward gives you many workout options and variety.

Features

Stride Length Fixed Stride: 20 inches.  This isn’t a bad stride length.  If you don’t use the full stride length that is fine.  The only limitation is for people whose gait is longer than 20 inches.
Drive Type
  • Front-drive:  The Sole E95 Elliptical is a front-drive designed and engineered elliptical trainer that lets you pedal backward or forward.  As far as I’m concerned, exercise equipment, including elliptical trainers, that offer workout variety, makes it a better value.
  • The Sole E95 offers several features that contribute to workout variety – forward and backward pedalling, an incline, 20 resistance levels, and both fixed and moveable handles.
Incline Option
  • 15 to 40 degree incline range.  Whether you like a flat terrain elliptical stride or want to mix it up with uphill striding intensity, you have the flexibility to choose your incline preference with the Sole Fitness E95 Elliptical Trainer.
  • An incline doesn’t necessarily make your workout harder – that’s what the resistance settings are for.  Inclining your stride simply targets different muscles – particularly your calves.
Handles
  • Some ellipticals do not have moveable handles.  Other ellipticals offer only moveable handles (which requires doing a full body workout whether you want to or not).  The Sole E95 gives you the choice.  If you’re in the mood or your workout schedule dictates only a lower-body workout, then you can stabilize yourself holding onto the fixed handles.  If you want the full body workout, then use the moveable handles.  The moveable handles offer resistance equal to the resistance settings you choose for the leg stride.
Foot Placement Pedals Few elliptical makers pay as much attention to foot pedal ergonomics as Sole Fitness.  There are two elements to the foot pedal design on the E95:

  • Size: The foot placement pedals are large which let you angle and situate your feet in a comfortable position; and
  • Angled 2 degrees inward based on proper stance alignment designed by physical therapist.
Resistance Levels
  • 20 resistance levels.  It’s the resistance feature that dictates the intensity of your workout.  With twenty resistance levels to choose from you will be able to work out as intensely or as easy-going as you wish.
  • What type of resistance system is on the E95 Elliptical? The E95 uses the Eddy Current Braking (ECB) system.
  • What is an ECB? ECB produces resistance with electromagnetic induction. Click here to read more about Eddy Current Braking.
Heart Rate Monitor System
  • Sole Ellipticals offer a lot of workout choice.  That is no exception with the heart rate monitor options – of which there are 2 on the E95 Elliptical.  The 2 heart rate monitoring options are (1) pulse grips on the fixed handlebars, and (2) a wireless chest heart rate monitor.
  • At first glance you might not care about the heart rate monitor system.  I never did when I started using elliptical trainers.  However, as I progressed with my workouts, I started mixing n workouts that included heart rate-based workouts.
  • What’s a heart rate-based workout?  These are workout programs that adjust in intensity based on your heart rate.  The target heart is chosen by the workout goal you select.  For example, if you want to do a weight loss workout, then one common target heart rate to sustain through your workout is 65 percent of your maximum heart rate.  When you choose this type of workout, then the elliptical will adjust in intensity so that you sustain a heart rate that is 65 percent of your maximum heart rate.
Display Screen
The Sole Fitness E95 Elliptical is outfitted with a red display screen with large font for at-a-glance reading.
iFit Technology No.
Sound System
  • What would working out at home be without a sound system?  The Sole E95 has a built-in speaker system that you can plug your iPod or MP3 into.  You’ll have your music library with you for all your workouts.
Fan
  • Stay cool and comfortable with the built-in fan on the E95.
Console Features 2 fairly large water bottle holders where you can of course stash water or your favorite sports drink … or put whatever you need at your fingertips while working out – whether a phone, keys, notepad, digital recorder, pen, etc.
Maximum User Weight
  • 400 pounds.  A 400 pound user weight capacity is impressive for an elliptical in the $1,500 to $2,000 price range and is a testament to the solidness of the E95.
Workout Programs Mix up your workouts with the 10 programmed workouts that come with the E95 Elliptical.  There are 6 standard workouts, 2 user-defined workouts and 2 heart rate user programs.  This type of variety will meet most user’s workout needs.  That said, you can easily design your own elliptical workout.  Try some of the programmed workouts and see how they are designed, and then start creating your own workouts for more variety.
Dimensions
  • 82 by 33 by 68 inches (L x W x H);
  • Weight: 215 pounds.

Shipping Options

Sole Fitness offers 3 shipping and delivery options to accomodate the do-it-yourself types and those who can’t even use a hammer.

  • Residential Delivery: free shipping (curbside) when you buy the Sole Fitness E95 Elliptical Trainer.
  • Ground Inside Delivery: Pay an additional $99 and you can have your E95 brought into a room of you choose.  This is a nice feature if you won’t have anyone around to help bring your elliptical inside.  The free shipping will only deliver your elliptical to the outside of your home.
  • Turn Key Delivery: It’s called Turn Key for a reason – you’ll have your elliptical up and running without having to do anything yourself.  For an additional $239 you can have your E95 Elliptical brought into a room of your choice and then assembled for you.

Benefits

  • Where to start?  How about workout variety.  You can use the incline, change resistance levels (20 options), pedal forward, pedal backward, and/or choose from one of 10 programmed workouts.
  • Elliptical trainers are a great alternative workout to running, walking and cycling.  If you run outside or cycle outside, an elliptical trainer is a great workout machine to cross train your body.
  • Low impact workouts – if you’re concerned about the pounding your joints can take running, an elliptical is a low-impact alternative.

Complaints

  • Fixed stride only.  What does this mean?  It means you can’t adjust stride length to suit your gait.  I’m not too concerned by this limitation – at least not as much as the fact the maximum stride length is 20 inches.
  • Maximum stride length is only 20 inches.

Warranty

  • Lifetime: frame;
  • Five years: electronics and parts.

Price Range

$1,500 – $2,000 (prices and inventory may vary)
