Do you need a 60 inch long running deck?
The best way to truly figure out whether you need this length is to go to a gym or a treadmill retail store and try out different lengths. This is by far the best way to find out how long of a treadmill running surface you require.
Generally, if you’re over 6 feet tall and jog or run, you’ll appreciate at least a 60 inch long running surface. I know I do.
Even if you’re shorter than 6 feet, but are a demanding runner (or plan to be) and/or sprint, then a longer running surface is good.
One thing to keep in mind when getting a larger treadmill is, and this is obvious, it’s longer and larger. It will take up more space. Be sure you have sufficient space in your home or wherever you plan to use your treadmill.
Here’s my thought on the subject:
Even if you’re a walker now, you never know if you’ll start running the future. If so, having more space is good if, of course, you have the space in your home.
Typically, longer treadmills also cost more. That is a downside to at least a 60″ long running deck.

Other key criteria, in my view, when shopping for a treadmill include the motor horsepower, maximum speed, incline options, whether it folds, and of course price. These are the specifications set out in these charts. Note these charts are not meant to list out all the features of a particular treadmill. Instead, use these charts to quickly do your research for a prospective treadmill purchase.
